It started with a mustard seed...

Created within 24 hours of each-other, the two pieces featured in this unfinished 3-part-series "Faith" and "Power of the tongue" are one of my most meaningful in my 2023 portfolio. I used a mix of acyclic medias on hand stretched canvas, building textured layers of paint and melted plastic on top of one another.
Viewers will notice a seed in both compositions, coexisting through separation. As a black woman, raised in a praying household, I was learned that the power of words is strong. I heard "all you need is faith the size of a mustard seed",
"faith without work is dead",
"there is true power in the tongue",
"speak it into existence."
Consistently the message that having an idea, hope or dream was nothing without speaking it, nurturing it, and working towards it.
I encourage viewers to get lost in these pieces, not to never be found, but to stumble across a path you may have been waiting to explore.
